Bag It—Beautifully
“UP-CYCLING” is how longtime resident and local artist Kathy Chamberlin describes her newest enterprise, which is turning colorful and artsy onion bags into reusable shopping bags. “The farmers have all these great logos—that’s what really drives it,” she says.
Kathy acquires the onion bags from produce departments at local grocery stores. They come in three different sizes—50-pound, 25-pound and 10-pound—and have proven to be quite durable. She’s been selling the largest bags for about $20, and smaller ones for a bit less.
She is looking for new outlets to sell these vibrant handmade bags. In the meantime, you can reach her and take a look at some of her bags online at UpCyclingBags.com.
