Sometimes it’s just magic. After months of working on content for this issue, as all of the pieces came together for magazine layout a bigger picture emerged. It became clear that our stories share a strong emphasis on food and art—feeding the creative process, in particular. From Aspen Words and Anderson Ranch to Elsewhere Studios in Paonia, food is nourishing—and inspiring—the minds of local writers and artists at many different levels. Savor the season!

Lisa Houston, Publisher

In Remembrance

Summertime in the Valley absolutely shines thanks to an abundance of farm and food events, al fresco dining and farmers’ markets, but this season will have a little less twinkle to it without the local food producer and distributor Jack Reed, who passed away in April. His devotion to promoting local farms and food producers has made a lasting impact on consumers and restaurants here in the Valley, and his enthusiasm will be missed. Here’s to Jack!
